Nose
Ripe blackberry and boysenberry jam lead, with a swirl of plum skin and a dusting of black pepper and sweet baking spice.
Palate
Full bodied and round, almost velvety. Dark berries and stewed plum coat the tongue, then a warm peppery spice kicks in. Tannins are soft, acidity is modest, and the alcohol gives a gentle heat.
Finish
Long and warm, echoing jammy black fruit and a final flicker of sweet spice.
How to serve and what to pour it with
Serve it at cool room temperature, about 65 degrees, in a wide bowl glass so the jammy fruit can open up. No need to decant, but a half hour in the glass helps. If it feels too warm, chill the bottle for ten minutes. Pour generously alongside food.
