The story

The story behind Svedka

Svedka was founded in 1998, and the name is a portmanteau of Svenska and Vodka. It was built in Lidköping, Sweden, on Swedish winter wheat and spring water, run through a five-column continuous still on a cycle of more than 40 hours. That constant motion strips impurities, which is why the brand never needed charcoal filtration.

Production has since moved to an American corn base, and ownership passed from Constellation Brands to the Sazerac Company in December 2024. Through all of it the bottle stayed unaged, neutral and honestly priced. We have poured it across this counter for decades, and it still does the job a value vodka is supposed to do.

Which Svedka is right for you?

Svedka sits in the value tier, and our shelf reflects that. The 750mL core bottle is $12.99, and the 375mL is $6.99 if you want to try it before committing to a handle. Step up to the 1.75L at $20.99 and the per ounce math gets very friendly for a party. Flavored handles run $15.99 for Grapefruit Jalapeno, and the 1L Strawberry Lemonade is $16.99. The 50mL minis are $0.99 each, $1.29 for the 100 proof, which makes a cheap way to build a tasting flight.

Svedka cocktails and pairings

Svedka is a mixing vodka, so pair it with salt, acid and fat rather than delicate food.
Good to know

Svedka questions, answered

Is Svedka vodka or gin?
Svedka is a vodka, an unaged neutral grain spirit bottled at 80 proof in the core expression. It contains no juniper or botanical infusion, so it is not gin and cannot be substituted for gin in a recipe that depends on those flavors.
Is Svedka made in Sweden?
Svedka was originally produced in Lidköping, Sweden, but current production runs out of the United States on an American corn base. The name still nods to Svenska, and the five-column continuous distillation process carries over unchanged.
Who owns Svedka vodka now?
The Sazerac Company acquired Svedka in December 2024, taking over from Constellation Brands, which had owned the brand since 2007. Founder Guillaume Cuvelier launched it in 1998 as a Swedish value vodka.
What proof is Svedka vodka?
The core unflavored Svedka is 80 proof, or 40 percent alcohol by volume. The 100 Proof expression is 50 percent ABV, flavored bottlings sit at 70 proof, and the Rosé expression is 60 proof.
Can I get Svedka delivered or pick it up locally?
