The story

The story behind Balvenie

The Balvenie was founded by William Grant in 1892 in Dufftown, in the heart of Speyside, and first ran its stills in 1893. It is still owned by the family firm, William Grant & Sons. Few distilleries still grow barley on their own farm, turn it by hand in a working floor malting room, keep a coppersmith on site and run their own cooperage. Balvenie does all four.

Under Malt Master David C. Stewart, the distillery helped establish cask finishing, moving whisky from ex bourbon oak into sherry, rum or port casks for a final stretch. We have carried Balvenie on Jericho Turnpike for over three decades, and the 12 Year DoubleWood remains the bottle we hand to anyone starting down the single malt road.

Balvenie's honeyed, malty profile sits well with aged Gouda, charcuterie and a vanilla dessert. Serve it neat or with a splash of spring water.
Good to know

Balvenie questions, answered

What is Balvenie whisky?
Balvenie is a single malt Scotch whisky made in Dufftown, Speyside, from 100 percent malted barley and distilled in copper pot stills. It has been produced by the William Grant family since 1893.
Is Balvenie a single malt?
Yes, Balvenie is a single malt Scotch, meaning it comes from one distillery and uses only malted barley, water and yeast. No grain whisky or other distilleries' spirit is blended in.
What does Balvenie DoubleWood taste like?
DoubleWood 12 is matured in ex bourbon oak, then finished in Oloroso sherry casks. Expect honey, vanilla and dried fruit with a soft, rounded sherry sweetness on the finish.
Is Balvenie peated?
Most Balvenie expressions are unpeated, though the distillery does release peated bottlings such as the 14 Year Old Peated and Week of Peat. The core DoubleWood and Caribbean Cask are not smoky.
Can I get Balvenie delivered or pick it up locally?
