The story behind Hendrick's
Hendrick's launched in 1999, made by William Grant & Sons at the Gin Palace in Girvan, South Ayrshire, Scotland. Master Distiller Lesley Gracie built the recipe around two stills: an 1860 Bennett still that steeps botanicals overnight for a heavy, oily spirit, and a 1948 Carter-Head still that bathes them in rising vapor for a light, sweet one. The two distillates are blended, then finished with cold-infused Bulgarian Damascena rose and Dutch cucumber.
That post-distillation infusion is why Hendrick's is not a London Dry. Eleven botanicals, a wheat base, no aging, and a cucumber wheel instead of lime. We have poured it in Commack for over 30 years of selling gin, and it still moves.
