The story behind Tamdhu
Tamdhu was built in 1897 on the banks of the River Spey near Knockando, designed by Charles Doig, the Victorian architect behind a good share of Speyside's distilleries. A consortium of blenders founded it, and for much of its life the spirit went quietly into their casks rather than onto shelves under its own name.
What separates Tamdhu is discipline. Every drop of the single malt is matured in Oloroso sherry oak seasoned in Spain, European and American, with no ex-bourbon filling and no finishing program. Color comes from the wood alone, no caramel added, and the whisky is non-chill filtered. Three wash stills and three spirit stills with downward lyne arms give a full, slightly oily malt that carries sherry weight without turning cloying.
