The story

The story behind Jefferson's

Jefferson's started in 1997, when Trey Zoeller and his father Chet, a bourbon historian, began blending sourced Kentucky barrels instead of building a rackhouse. The name honors Thomas Jefferson, who repealed the federal whiskey tax in 1802. The family line runs deeper still: Trey's eighth-generation grandmother, Marian McLain, was documented in 1799 as one of the first women arrested for illegal distilling.

Today the home base is Kentucky Artisan Distillery in Crestwood, Kentucky, handling distilling, experimental blending and bottling. Pernod Ricard acquired the brand in 2019, and Trey still serves as master blender. That Ocean series? Real barrels, roughly six months on working container ships, about 30 ports, several equator crossings. We have poured these since the early days.
