The story behind Gosling's
James Gosling left England in December 1806 aboard the ship Mercury, bound for America. The charter ran out and the ship put in at St. George's, Bermuda, where he opened a shop. That shop is Bermuda's oldest business house, and the family has been at it for more than two centuries.
Gosling's is a blender and bottler, not a field to glass distiller. The company buys molasses based rum distillates from Caribbean islands, marries pot still spirit for body with column still spirit for clarity, and ages the blend 3 to 6 years in once used charred American oak bourbon barrels. The barrels get re-charred, and molasses and caramel go in on the island for consistent color and texture.
