How to Ship Wine and Spirits to Georgia from Long Island
Shipping alcohol across state lines is legal, but it is regulated, and Georgia is no exception. Before you order, it helps to understand how to ship wine, what a wine shipping service can and cannot do, and where the rules differ for spirits. Here is how it works when you buy from Long Island Wine & Spirit Merchant in Commack, New York and send a bottle south.
Can you ship wine in the mail?
You can ship wine, but not through the US Postal Service. Federal law keeps alcohol out of USPS, so a compliant wine shipping service uses a private carrier. We ship via UPS or FedEx only, and every package travels with an adult 21+ signature required on delivery. No PO boxes, since someone must sign. If you are wondering how to ship wine as a gift, the same rules apply to gift orders.
Wine versus spirits: different state lists
Wine ships to more states than spirits, and that gap matters for Georgia. Distilled spirits face tighter rules than fermented grape products, so a bottle of Cabernet may clear a state that a bourbon cannot. We confirm eligibility for your exact items at checkout, so you see clearly what can ship before you pay. We never promise a shipment that may be restricted.
How to ship wine to a friend in Georgia
- Confirm the recipient will be 21 or older and present to sign.
- Use a street address, not a PO box.
- Choose a wine that suits their taste, or a spirit if it is eligible for the state.
- Add a gift box for a polished presentation.
- Expect typical transit of a few business days once the order ships.
Discreet wine shipping and packaging
For discreet wine shipping, we pack in sturdy, protective cartons designed to cushion glass in transit. Bottles are secured so they arrive intact, and the outer box does not advertise its contents. Temperature swings are the main risk on a long haul, so we recommend shipping early in the week when possible so a package does not sit over a weekend.
