The story

The story behind New Amsterdam

New Amsterdam arrived in 2011 from E. & J. Gallo, made in Modesto, California. The mash is 95 percent American corn with a little other cereal grain, which is why the spirit is gluten free. It runs through a column still five times, then three separate charcoal filtrations before proofing with pure water. No barrel, no age, no shortcut.

We have poured it behind this counter for years, and the reason is simple: it does the job at a price that lets you pour generously. The Tasting Panel scored it 93 points in 2021, and the Beverage Tasting Institute has repeatedly named the unflavored bottling a Best Buy. That tracks with what we see, which is people buying it twice.
