The story

The story behind Whistle Pig Farm

WhistlePig started in 2007, when Raj Peter Bhakta bought a 500 acre dairy farm in Shoreham, Vermont. Dave Pickerell, late of Maker's Mark, came aboard to build the distillery and shape the house profile. The early barrels were 100 percent rye stock sourced from Alberta, and that high rye spine still sets the tone.

The farm now grows its own rye and harvests Vermont estate oak for custom charred barrels, a triple terroir approach. Chief blender Meghan Ireland layers in Sauternes, Madeira, Port and sherry cask finishes. We have poured these since the first labels landed in Commack.

Good to know

Whistle Pig Farm questions, answered

Who owns WhistlePig whiskey?
WhistlePig was founded in 2007 by Raj Peter Bhakta on a 500 acre farm in Shoreham, Vermont. Dave Pickerell joined to build the distillery and develop the house rye profile. The brand is now owned by Moet Hennessy.
Is WhistlePig a rye or a bourbon?
WhistlePig is a rye whiskey, not a bourbon. Its mash bills run high rye to 100 percent rye grain, which gives a sharper spice profile than the corn forward bourbon style. The flagship is a 10 year straight rye.
What is the difference between WhistlePig 10 and 12 year?
The 10 Year is a 100 proof straight rye with caramel, vanilla and baking spice. The 12 Year Old World is 86 proof and finished in Sauternes, Madeira and Port wine casks, which adds dried fruit and honeyed notes.
Do you deliver WhistlePig rye locally?
Yes. We offer same-day or next-day delivery across Nassau and Suffolk, free local delivery over $250, and free curbside pickup in Commack. Spirits ship to the states where it is legal, confirmed at checkout, so call (631) 343-7200 to confirm stock.
How should you serve WhistlePig rye?
Serve the 6 and 10 Year in cocktails, where the proof and spice hold up. Pour the 12 Year, 15 Year and Boss Hog neat or over one large cube so the cask finish opens slowly. Rich charred food pairs well.
