The story behind Rothman & Winter
Destillerie Purkhart has been distilling in Austria since 1932, and Rothman & Winter is the label that carried that family craft into American bars. The line arrived here in 2007 through importer Eric Seed and Haus Alpenz, built on a simple idea: blend fresh juice from the seasonal harvest with an eau-de-vie distilled from that same fruit.
Fruit comes from Upper Austria, Lower Austria, the Danube Valley, Styria and the South Tirol. Nothing artificial is added to the orchard expressions, and the Creme de Violette infuses grape brandy with real Queen Charlotte and March violets, sweetened with cane sugar. Bottled at higher proof with less sugar than most liqueurs, these are cordials built for mixing, not sipping syrup.
