The story

The story behind Religion

Religion Tequila was founded in 2012 by Aidan Uttinger, an Auckland liquor entrepreneur who built the brand around 100% blue Weber agave grown in the Jalisco highlands. Distillation happens at Premium de Jalisco, NOM 1558, in the mountain country around Mazamitla, where split agave is cooked, fermented in stainless steel with a house leavening stock, then distilled twice.

The Kiwi fingerprint is the Manuka honey expression, one of the few 100% agave tequilas infused with real New Zealand honey. The Reposado took Silver at San Francisco in 2012 and Gold in 2013. We have carried the lineup for years and it still moves on the strength of the liquid, not the label.

Four expressions, one agave source. The Blanco shows the raw highland character, the Reposado and Anejo add oak, and the Manuka Honey walks its own sweet, herbal line.

Buying guidance

Which Religion is right for you?

Pricing sits where small batch agave usually lands. Religion Blanco Tequila is $53.99, and the Manuka Honey expression matches it at $53.99, which is fair for real New Zealand honey in the bottle. The Reposado runs $58.99, and the Anejo is $65.99, the top of the lineup and the one we pour for people who say they do not like tequila. Every bottle is 750mL. Stock turns quickly here, so call the Commack store at (631) 343-7200 before you drive over and we will confirm what is on the shelf.

Religion questions, answered

Who owns Religion Tequila?
Religion Tequila was created in 2012 by Aidan Uttinger, an alcohol and liquor entrepreneur based in Auckland, New Zealand. The brand is produced in Jalisco, Mexico, at Premium de Jalisco, NOM 1558, in the Mazamitla mountain region.
Is Religion Tequila 100% agave?
Yes, Religion Tequila is made from 100% blue Weber agave grown in the Jalisco highlands. The agave is cooked, fermented in stainless steel tanks with a custom leavening stock, then double distilled. The Manuka Honey expression uses that same agave base.
What does Religion Manuka Honey Tequila taste like?
It is sweet, rich, herbaceous and warm, with genuine New Zealand Manuka honey layered over a 100% agave tequila base. It bottles at 35% ABV, or 70 proof, lower than the other expressions, and works well in a sour or an Old Fashioned variant.
How is Religion Reposado Tequila aged?
Religion Reposado rests between two and eleven months in oak barrels, which brings cooked agave, plantain, orange, vanilla and caramel into the glass. It took Silver at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2012 and Gold in 2013.
Can I get Religion Tequila delivered or pick it up locally?
Yes. We offer same-day or next-day delivery across Nassau and Suffolk, free curbside pickup in Commack, and free local delivery on orders over $250. Spirits ship to the states where it is legal, confirmed at checkout, so call (631) 343-7200 to confirm stock before you order.
