About the Classic Margarita
The Margarita rose to fame along the Mexico and Texas border in the 1930s and 40s, and it has been the most-ordered cocktail in America for years. Its appeal is simple: a perfect balance of agave-rich tequila, sharp fresh lime and a touch of orange sweetness.
The classic ratio is 2:1:1, two parts tequila to one part lime to one part orange liqueur. Use freshly squeezed lime, never bottled, and a 100 percent agave blanco tequila for a clean, lively drink.
- Use only fresh lime juice; bottled lime makes the drink taste flat.
- For a richer version, try a reposado tequila.
- Add a few jalapeno slices to the shaker for a spicy margarita.
- For a frozen margarita, blend the same measures with a cup of ice.
