Rioja is Spain's best known red wine region, set in the north near the Ebro River and built on Tempranillo, often blended with Garnacha and a little Graciano. The traditional style leans on barrel aging, so the wine shows red and dark fruit with cedar, leather and a soft savory edge. Younger Riojas stay bright and juicy, while reserva bottlings add depth and polish.
