Il Gabbiano Italian Red
Tuscan Sangiovese poured in Commack for three decades.
The story behind Il Gabbiano
The cellars at Il Gabbiano were dug into Tuscan ground in 1124 by the Bardi family, Florentine bankers who knew a good hillside when they saw one. Commercial winemaking on the estate is documented from 1480. The property sits in the Chianti Classico zone, in San Casciano in Val di Pesa outside Florence, on clay and limestone soils between 250 and 350 meters.
Sangiovese drives everything here, sometimes softened with Canaiolo, Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. Core reds rest at least twelve months, moving from French oak barriques into larger casks so the wood never shouts over the fruit. We have carried Il Gabbiano on this shelf for decades, and it remains one of the easiest ways to put real Chianti on a Tuesday table.

Il Gabbiano cocktails and pairings
Pour these at cellar temperature, 60 to 65 degrees, and give the Barolo an hour open. The richer reds want fat and salt on the plate.
