The story behind Exclusiv
Exclusiv comes out of the Republic of Moldova, the small country wedged between Romania and Ukraine near the Black Sea. It was developed in 2003 by the manufacturer Perfect, and a Russian born immigrant named Serge Chistov brought it to the United States through his importing company, Serge Import LLC. The base is 100 percent winter wheat, which is why the spirit reads soft and bread like rather than sharp.
The water is pulled from underground springs 180 meters down, filtered through limestone. The vodka is distilled five times and charcoal filtered four times, then run through a proprietary low temperature process that knocks the ethanol edge off the finish. In 2012 it took Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and 91 points from the Beverage Testing Institute, which also named it Best Value Vodka $10 and Under.
