The story

The story behind Di Amore

Di Amore arrived in 1975, brought to market by Fleischmann Distilling as the first American made amaretto. The label reads Italian, and the flavors follow the Italian countryside, but the bottling has long been handled stateside by Barton in Bardstown, Kentucky. Sazerac has owned the brand since 2009.

No barrels, no grapes, no agave. These are blended cordials: neutral spirit, sugar, water, and flavor. The flagship amaretto leans on crushed apricot essence and bitter almond for that marzipan depth. It took a Silver Medal and 86 points at the BTI International Review of Spirits, where it was named a Best Value Nut Liqueur.

Di Amore cocktails and pairings

Amaretto wants dark chocolate, tiramisu, and espresso. Sambuca wants a hot cup and a cold glass. Quattro Orange slides into citrus cocktails.
Good to know

Di Amore questions, answered

Is Di Amore Amaretto made in Italy?
No. Di Amore is styled after Italian liqueurs, but the brand launched in 1975 through Fleischmann Distilling and has long been bottled in the United States by Barton in Bardstown, Kentucky. Sazerac has owned it since 2009.
What is Di Amore Amaretto made from?
It is a blended cordial of neutral spirit, sugar, water, and flavoring, built on crushed apricot essence and bitter almond. That combination gives the marzipan and almond character people expect from amaretto. No barrel aging is involved.
What proof is Di Amore Amaretto?
Di Amore Amaretto is 42 proof, or 21 percent alcohol by volume. That is standard for the amaretto category and low enough to sip neat. The sambuca in the line is bottled at 84 proof.
How should you serve Di Amore Amaretto?
Chill it and serve neat, over cracked ice, or stirred into warm coffee. It also works as a base for an amaretto sour and pairs well with tiramisu and dark chocolate. Keep the bottle in the refrigerator after opening.
