The story behind Compass Box
Compass Box is a London blender, not a distillery. John Glaser, an American expat and former Johnnie Walker marketing director, founded it in 2000 and built the house on sourcing malt and grain from more than 40 Scottish distilleries, then marrying those parcels in small batches. In 2015 the company tangled with the Scotch Whisky Association over age statements and cask staves, and turned that fight into a transparency campaign: exact percentages, cask types, and distillery sources printed for anyone who asks.
Glaser stepped back from daily operations in 2024, leaving blending to James Saxon and Angela D'Orazio. Every core bottle leaves at 46% ABV, natural color, no chill filtration. We have carried the range for years and still get asked why the labels read like a recipe card. That is the point.
