The story

The story behind Colonial Club

Colonial Club is an American value label, historically tied to production and bottling in Cleveland, Ohio, and now owned and distributed by Luxco, Inc. of St. Louis, Missouri, part of MGP Ingredients. There is no boutique backstory here: a neutral grain spirit base is cold-compounded with flavoring, sweetener and color, then bottled fresh with no aging at all.

That is exactly why the line has lived on back bars for decades. Colonial Club cordials are built for volume mixing, the sweetening and accent layer in a Margarita, a Grasshopper, a Blue Hawaiian. Bottles land in the $5 to $10 range, and the Triple Sec alone ships in 30, 40 and 60 proof variations depending on region. We have poured and sold this tier for over 30 years on Jericho Turnpike.

Buying guidance

Which Colonial Club is right for you?

This is the value tier, and we price it that way. Colonial Club Creme de Cacao, dark or white, runs $5.99 for a full liter. The Grenadine and the Triple Sec are $6.99 for 750mL. Compare that to a premium orange liqueur at four times the cost and you see the trade: lower alcohol, compounded flavor, no aging. For a party punch, a batch of Margaritas, or a Grasshopper you are making once a year, that math works. Buy Colonial Club online or grab it off the shelf in Commack.

Color, tartness and volume for Sunrises, Shirley Temples and layered drinks.

Good to know

Colonial Club questions, answered

Who makes Colonial Club cordials?
Colonial Club is owned, supplied and marketed by Luxco, Inc., a large American spirits producer based in St. Louis, Missouri, and a subsidiary of MGP Ingredients. The brand has historical production ties to Cleveland, Ohio, and is distributed nationally as a value line.
Are Colonial Club cordials alcoholic?
Yes. In the United States a cordial is an alcoholic liqueur, not a fruit syrup. Colonial Club products generally range from 15% ABV, or 30 proof, up to 21% ABV, or 42 proof, on the ready to drink Long Island Iced Tea.
What is the difference between a cordial and a liqueur?
There is no legal difference in the United States. The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau classifies both identically as spirits flavored and sweetened with at least 2.5% sugar by weight, so the words are used interchangeably on labels.
Why is Colonial Club Triple Sec cheaper than Cointreau?
Colonial Club is a value brand built on cold compounding and a lower alcohol content, typically 15% ABV. Cointreau sits at 40% ABV and uses expensive distillation of natural sweet and bitter orange peels, which is most of the price gap.
