Chateau De Gaudou French Red
Cahors Malbec from a seventh generation family estate since 1733.
The story behind Chateau De Gaudou
The Durou family settled at Chateau De Gaudou in 1733, in Vire-sur-Lot, the heart of the Cahors appellation in South West France. For generations they farmed and traded barrel wine and grew lavender before bottling their own estate label in 1966 under Jean-Louis Durou. Fabrice Durou now runs the property as the seventh generation.
The estate farms organically with HVE certification and ferments with wild yeasts, gentle pigeage and no added sulfur, so the fruit leads instead of the oak. Malbec, the local black wine grape, anchors every red, with small additions of Merlot and Tannat for structure. Average vine age runs about 50 years, and some plots date to the late 1800s on original rootstock.
