The story

The story behind Cazadores

Cazadores began with a family recipe in 1922, when Don Jose Maria Banuelos worked out his own approach to Highland agave in Arandas, Jalisco. His grandson Don Felix built the commercial distillery in 1973, and the brand as you know it launched in 1982. The stag on the label is a nod to the deer that roam the Los Altos country where the blue Weber agave grows.

Production is 100% blue Weber agave, double distilled in stainless steel pot stills, aged in new American white oak. The distillery runs a zero waste facility on a biomass boiler fed by spent agave fiber. They also play Mozart to the fermenting wash for 7 to 9 days, which sounds like a marketing story until you hear it from the people who work the tanks.

Good to know

Cazadores questions, answered

Is Cazadores tequila 100% agave?
Yes. Cazadores is made from 100% blue Weber agave grown in the Los Altos Highlands of Jalisco, with no added sugars or grain neutral spirit in the standard expressions.
Who owns Cazadores tequila?
Cazadores is owned by Bacardi Limited, which acquired the brand from the Banuelos family. The tequila is still produced in Arandas, Jalisco, at the distillery built there in 1973.
Is Cazadores tequila good for sipping?
The Anejo and Anejo Cristalino are the sipping picks, aged in American oak and best poured neat at room temperature. The Blanco is sharper and better suited to cocktails.
What is the difference between Cazadores Reposado and Anejo?
Reposado rests 2 to 12 months in new American oak, so the agave stays forward. Anejo spends 1 to 3 years in oak, which brings caramel and dried fruit over the pepper.
