The story

The story behind The Crusher

The Crusher is a California wine from Don Sebastiani & Sons, made in partnership with the Wilsons, a multi generation grape growing family in the Clarksburg AVA near the Sacramento Delta. Clarksburg's clay and loam soils are fed by Sierra Nevada mountain runoff. The name marks the point in the facility where the grower's vineyard work passes into the winemaker's hands.

The Red Blend is the tell. It skips the Bordeaux playbook and builds on Tempranillo and Petite Sirah, with vintages folding in Tannat, Syrah, Teroldego, Malbec, Zinfandel and Petit Verdot. Aging runs mostly French and American oak with a little Hungarian oak, which is where the vanilla, cocoa and baking spice come from. We have poured it for years.
