The story behind Smoke Wagon
Smoke Wagon comes from Las Vegas, not Kentucky. Aaron Chepenik and Jonathan Hensleigh founded Nevada H&C Distilling in 2012, the first registered distillery in the city, and the whiskey itself is contract distilled by MGP Ingredients in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. The barrels then travel west and age in desert heat, where the wood moves hard and fast.
The core mash bill is 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malted barley, and the standard bottlings skip chill filtration. Barrels sit on the top two floors of the warehouse, never rotated, and get married young to old for spice plus cream. The name is Old West slang for a Colt revolver. It is not smoke.
