Silver Oak Cabernet
American oak Cabernet, aged three years before it ever meets you.
The story behind Silver Oak
Silver Oak Cellars started in 1972 with a handshake. Ray Twomey Duncan, an entrepreneur, and Justin Meyer, a winemaker, agreed to make one thing only: high end Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley. The family still runs it, now through Ray's sons David and Tim.
What sets Silver Oak apart is American oak, used exclusively. Justin Meyer wanted the softer tannin and the vanilla and baking spice that French oak does not give. The winery owns its own stave mill and cooperage, The Oak Cooperage in Missouri, so it controls the barrel from tree to toast. Each wine rests 24 to 25 months in barrel, then another 12 to 14 months in bottle, so it is ready the day it reaches us.
Explore the Silver Oak range
Silver Oak makes two regional Cabernets, plus older vintages that pass through our shelves. Alexander Valley is the softer, fruit forward pour; Napa Valley is the denser, more structured one.

Which Silver Oak is right for you?
Silver Oak pricing tracks the dirt, not the label. The Alexander Valley bottling sits at $79.99, the everyday entry to the house style. The Napa Valley runs $119.99, and it earns the gap with density and structure. Older vintages climb from there: the 2006 at $99.99, the 2005 at $125.99, and the 2004 at $149.99, each one already cellared for you by the winery and by time. Silver Oak cocktails and pairings
Serve Silver Oak at 60 to 65 degrees and decant an hour or two so the American oak opens. It wants savory, heavy food.
