The story

The story behind Shinas Estate

Shinas Estate started in 2002 in Mildura, in northwest Victoria, founded by George Shinas, a former night court judge. The law themed labels came from his courtroom years, and the family had been growing grapes since late 1800s plantings. In 2022 the brand moved to the Barossa Valley in South Australia, and long time collaborator Stephen Black of Small Gully took full ownership after George retired.

The Shiraz is typically all Shiraz, sometimes with up to 5 percent Cabernet Sauvignon by vintage. Grapes hang later than neighbors, dry a little on the vine, ferment as whole berries, then age 18 to 24 months in seasoned French and American oak. Coarse filtered or unfined, and built to be bold.

Who owns Shinas Estate?
Stephen Black of Small Gully took full ownership of Shinas Estate in 2022 after founder George Shinas retired. Black had been the long time winemaker collaborator, so the style carried over with the move to Barossa.
