Septima Red Blends
High altitude Mendoza reds, poured in Commack since day one.
The story behind Septima
Septima was founded in 1999 by the Raventós Codorníu family, the Spanish winemaking dynasty, and the name marks it as the seventh winery in that group. The estate sits in Agrelo, inside Luján de Cuyo in Mendoza, with vineyards at 1,050 to 1,100 meters in the Andean foothills. That altitude swings temperatures up to 15°C between day and night, which keeps the fruit clean and the acidity crisp.
Grapes are picked by hand into small bins. The flagship blends go through fractional vinification, half with cold maceration and half through more than 50 microvinifications, then age in French, American and Hungarian oak. The cellar walls are stacked riverbed stone, Huarpe pirca style, no mortar, holding temperature on their own. We have poured these reds for years.

Which Septima is right for you?
The entry tier is where most people start, and it costs little to do so. Septima Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec all sit at $10.99 a bottle, which is honest money for fruit grown at 1,100 meters. Step to the Obra Malbec at $16.99 for oak and a James Suckling score on the label. The Gran Riserva Red, the flagship Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tannat blend, runs $39.99 and earns the decanter.
