Napa Cellars Chardonnay
Napa Valley Chardonnay, French oak, poured in Commack since the start.
The story behind Napa Cellars
Napa Cellars began in 1976 as Napa Wine Cellars, founded by Charlie Woods, who put up the geodesic dome tasting room on Highway 29 in Oakville. The brand now sits with Trinchero Family Estates, with Joe Shirley making the wine. The Chardonnay comes off Napa Valley fruit, much of it from cooler southern ground: south Napa, Oak Knoll, Carneros, plus the Vista Montone Vineyard.
Hand-picked grapes ferment and age in French oak, 24 to 32 percent of it new depending on vintage, resting on the lees with stirring for 5 to 8 months. Most of the lot, 88 to 100 percent, goes through malolactic, which is where the crème fraîche texture comes from. We have poured this Chardonnay for years because it tastes like Napa without the theater.
