The story behind Muirhead's Silver Seal
Charles Muirhead founded his firm in Edinburgh in 1824 as wine merchants, and the house grew into blending and independent bottling. Muirhead's Silver Seal carries that merchant's instinct: rather than running one estate distillery, the brand selects single malts from Speyside and Highland distilleries and bottles them under its own seal. Since a 2008 acquisition by Terroir Distillers, production shares explicit links to Tullibardine.
What lands in the bottle is 100% malted barley and Scottish water, run through traditional copper pot stills and matured in Scotland in oak, with the older expressions resting in Sherry-seasoned oak or ex-bourbon barrels. The house style stays light and unpeated: vanilla, orchard fruit, honey, toasted malt, gentle spice. We have poured these for decades because the price never outruns the whisky.
