The story

The story behind Meiomi

Meiomi was founded in 2006 by Joe Wagner, a fifth generation California winemaker and the son of Chuck Wagner of Caymus. The name means coast in the language of the Wappo and Yuki tribes, and the wine earns it. Fruit comes from three coastal counties, Monterey, Sonoma and Santa Barbara, blended across microclimates so the house style holds year to year.

Fermentation starts in stainless steel, then malolactic and French oak aging follow. Stirring the lees builds that plush, creamy middle. We have carried Meiomi Chardonnay on Jericho Turnpike for years and it moves for one reason: people taste it once and come back for the bottle.

Good to know

Meiomi questions, answered

Who owns Meiomi wine today?
Constellation Brands bought Meiomi in 2015 for $315 million. By 2026 the portfolio moved under The Wine Group management umbrella. Ownership changed; the coastal blending approach did not.
Does Meiomi Chardonnay contain real sugar or oak additives?
The roundness and vanilla come from partial French oak barrel aging and malolactic fermentation, not additives. Industry talk about residual sugar persists, but the creamy texture is a winemaking result.
What other wines does Meiomi make?
Beyond Chardonnay, the core lineup centers on the flagship Pinot Noir, plus Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Rose and Sparkling Wine. We stock several of them on the shelf in Commack.
Where are the grapes for Meiomi grown?
The fruit is sourced from California coastal vineyards across Sonoma County, Monterey County and Santa Barbara County. Blending those three microclimates is what keeps the house style consistent each vintage.
Is Meiomi Chardonnay a dry or sweet wine?
It is technically a dry white table wine, though it tastes sweet and juicy thanks to forward tropical fruit, oak vanilla and soft acidity. Serve it well chilled. Local delivery and curbside pickup in Commack; wine ships only where legal, confirmed at checkout.
