The story

The story behind Markovic Estates

Markovic Estates traces its winemaking line to 1815 in Serbia, then to vineyards in Béziers, France in 1949. Ivan and Nadia Markovic launched the modern brand in the U.S. in 2000. The grapes come from Languedoc-Roussillon in southern France, much of it under Vin de France and Pays d'Oc IGP.

What sets these reds apart is residual sugar. Where most French reds are bone dry, Markovic Estates leaves a little sweetness in the Cabernet, Merlot and Malbec, so tannins read soft and fruit reads forward. You get Cabernet, Merlot, Malbec, Pinot Noir and Cinsault in the mix. We have poured them for years to customers who want red without the grip.

Buying guidance

Which Markovic Estates is right for you?

This is value drinking, plainly stated. The Markovic Estates Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Pinot Noir all sit at $9.99 for 750mL, and the 1.5L versions of Cabernet, Merlot, Malbec and Pinot Noir are $13.99. That is roughly four glasses more per bottle on the large format. Sweet reds run 11% to 12.5% ABV, the single varietals about 13%. Nothing here asks you to spend like a cellar wine, and nothing tastes like a compromise at this price.

Chill these reds to about 60 to 65°F before pouring. The touch of sugar tames chili heat and sweet glazes.

Good to know

Markovic Estates questions, answered

Where is Markovic Estates wine made?
The wines are produced in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France, under Vin de France or Pays d'Oc IGP classifications. The managing company is headquartered in New York, and the family's winemaking roots trace to Serbia and later Béziers, France.
Is Markovic Estates Cabernet Sauvignon sweet or dry?
It is distinctly semi-sweet. The winery purposefully retains residual sugar to soften tannins, so the Cabernet drinks fruit-forward with a gentle sweetness rather than the astringent grip of a traditional French Cabernet.
Is Markovic Estates wine good for beginners?
Yes. Restrained tannins, fresh berry flavors and gentle sweetness make these wines approachable for drinkers who find bone-dry reds too bitter. Serve slightly chilled, around 60 to 65°F, to keep the sugar balanced.
Who owns Markovic Estates?
The brand is family-owned and operated, led primarily by Ivan and Nadia Markovic, who established the modern commercial brand in the U.S. in 2000. The family's European winemaking history reaches back to 1815 in Serbia.
Can I get Markovic Estates delivered or pick it up?
We offer same-day or next-day delivery across Nassau and Suffolk, free local delivery over $250, and free curbside pickup at our Commack store. Wine shipping goes to states where it is legal, confirmed at checkout.
