Les Vignerons Du Castelas Rose
Dry Southern Rhone rosé from a 1952 grower cooperative.
The story behind Les Vignerons Du Castelas
Les Vignerons Du Castelas was founded on July 12, 1952, when a handful of families in Rochefort-du-Gard pooled their cellars under president Joseph Vaché. The village sits between Avignon and the Pont du Gard, on the right bank of the Southern Rhône. Today 45 families farm roughly 450 hectares under sustainable, reasoned agriculture.
The rosé leads with Grenache Noir, usually 70 to 90 percent, backed by Syrah and Cinsault. Grapes are picked at night, given a brief skin maceration, pressed, then fermented slow and cool in concrete vats, never oak. The result is pale pink-orange and bone dry, with grapefruit, wild red berries and garrigue.

Pricing here is honest Rhône value. The Côtes du Rhône Rosé 750mL is $12.99, and the 1.5L magnum is $19.99, which works out to about ten dollars a bottle for the same dry Grenache blend. The white sits at $11.99, the standard red at $9.99, and the oak-aged red at $14.99.
