The story behind Jeremiah Weed
Jeremiah Weed started in Stamford, Connecticut, where Heublein built it in the late 1960s to take on Southern Comfort. The base was Kentucky straight bourbon, cut with neutral grain spirits, sugar and herbal flavoring, and the original ran at 50% ABV, 100 proof. In 1981 a Heublein brand manager named David Boyle invented the rugged Jeremiah Weed persona for print ads, and the mystery stuck.
Diageo discontinued the core line in 2016. What sits on our shelves now is residual inventory, and it moves when it moves. Air Force fighter pilots made the 100 proof shot a squadron ritual long before that, which is why a bottle still turns heads at the counter.
