The story behind Il Lago
Merlot is the round, plush red that made itself at home on American tables. Expect softer tannins than Cabernet, dark plum and cherry fruit, and a smooth finish that does not ask much of you. It is the red to open on a Tuesday, and it plays well with tomato sauce, grilled sausage and simple roasted meats.
