The story behind Hampden Estate
Hampden Estate sits in Trelawny Parish, in Jamaica's northwest, and distilling on the estate goes back to the 1750s. That makes it one of the oldest continuously operating rum distilleries on the island. The house style has not drifted: molasses, wild yeast, long fermentations, pot stills, and tropical aging in Jamaica heat.
That method builds esters, the aromatic compounds behind the famous Jamaican funk. Hampden Estate labels its marks by ester level, and HLCF is one of the highest.
