The story

The story behind Greek Wine Cellars

Greece grows grapes nobody else does. Assyrtiko on Santorini, trained low in baskets against the wind off a volcanic caldera, gives a bone dry white with citrus and salt and a stony grip. Moscofilero from Mantinia, grown high on the Arcadian plateau, is lighter, floral, faintly spiced. Agiorgitiko makes the red of Nemea, plummy and soft. Greek Wine Cellars bottles across these appellations, so you get the grape and the place on one label.

We have carried Greek whites for years, and customers who try Assyrtiko once tend to come back for it. The style is dry and mineral rather than fruity, closer to Chablis than to anything from a warmer coast. Serve it cold with anything that swam.

Buying guidance

Which Greek Wine Cellars is right for you?

These sit where good Greek wine usually sits: modest money for real appellation character. The Assyrtiko Santorini and the Moscofilero Mantinia are both 13.99, and the Agiorgitiko Nemea is 12.99. That is Chablis-adjacent drinking at a fraction of the tariff. Buy two of the Assyrtiko, because the first bottle goes faster than you expect. Stock moves, so call ahead or check the shelf before you drive out.

Good to know

Greek Wine Cellars questions, answered

What does Assyrtiko taste like?
Assyrtiko is a dry white grape from Santorini, high in acid, with lemon, sea salt and a stony mineral finish. It tastes closer to Chablis than to a fruity warm climate white, and it holds up with shellfish.
Is Moscofilero a sweet wine?
Moscofilero is dry. The grape is aromatic, so it reads floral and faintly spiced on the nose, but the wine finishes dry and light. Serve it cold as an aperitif or with salads and goat cheese.
Where do these Greek wines come from?
The grapes are tied to named appellations: Assyrtiko from Santorini, Moscofilero from Mantinia, Agiorgitiko from Nemea. Greek Wine Cellars bottles across those regions, so the label tells you the grape and the place.
Can I get these delivered or pick them up?
Yes. We offer same day or next day delivery across Nassau and Suffolk, free local delivery over $250, and free curbside pickup at our Commack store. Wine ships only to states where it is legal, confirmed at checkout.
What should I eat with Agiorgitiko?
Agiorgitiko from Nemea is plummy with soft tannin, so it suits lamb, grilled sausage, moussaka and tomato based dishes. Serve it slightly cool if you want the fruit to lead. Must be 21 or older to purchase.
