Gouguenheim Chardonnay
High altitude Mendoza Chardonnay, poured in Commack since the start.
The story behind Gouguenheim
Gouguenheim was founded in 2002 by Patricio Gouguenheim, an Argentine of French descent who left investment banking to plant vines in the Uco Valley, in the Tupungato sub-region of Mendoza. He started during an economic crash, which tells you something about the man. The vineyards sit above 3,600 feet in the foothills of the Andes, irrigated by Andean meltwater running through alluvial soils, with a day to night swing of roughly 29 degrees Fahrenheit that concentrates fruit and aroma.
We have carried Gouguenheim Chardonnay at 1171 Jericho Turnpike for years because it overdelivers at the price. The winery leans on small concrete tanks for site-focused lots, keeping the entry Chardonnay crisp and fruit forward with minimal oak, while the higher tiers see French oak and bottle aging.
