The story behind Goldschmidt
Nick and Yolyn Goldschmidt founded Goldschmidt Vineyards in 1998, both winemaking expats from New Zealand. Nick still makes the wine, drawing on decades of harvests across both hemispheres, and he keeps the Cabernet program deliberately narrow: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, single vineyard, no Bordeaux blending to soften the edges.
The fruit comes from two Northern California sites, the Alexander Valley in Sonoma County and the Oakville AVA in Napa Valley. Alexander Valley gives you red fruit and a softer frame; Oakville gives darker fruit and firmer structure. Barrel aging runs 18 to 24 months in French oak, with Hungarian and American selections in the mix depending on tier, and the top parcels get a PLUS bottling pulled from the best rows.
