The story

The story behind Garrison Brothers

Garrison Brothers was founded in 2006 by Dan and Nancy Garrison in Hye, Texas, and it holds a real distinction: the first legal bourbon distillery in Texas, and the first outside Kentucky and Tennessee. Everything happens on their 68 acre ranch, from milling and cooking to hand bottling and wax dipping.

The mash bill is local: 74% Texas food grade white corn, 15% Texas red winter wheat, 11% malted barley, proofed with Hill Country rainwater. Barrels sit in steel barns that top 90 degrees nine months a year, and evaporation can reach 40%. That heat pulls dark oak, molasses and leather into the spirit fast.

Garrison Brothers cocktails and pairings

Texas bourbon is wood forward and hot, so match it with fat, smoke and salt. Serve neat, or over one large ice sphere.

Good to know

Garrison Brothers questions, answered

Who owns Garrison Brothers Bourbon?
Garrison Brothers is owned and run by founders Dan and Nancy Garrison, who opened the distillery in Hye, Texas in 2006. It was the first legal bourbon distillery in Texas and the first outside Kentucky and Tennessee.
Is Garrison Brothers a bourbon or a whiskey?
Garrison Brothers is a straight bourbon whiskey. It meets the bourbon rules with a mash bill of 74% Texas white corn, 15% red winter wheat and 11% malted barley, aged in new charred American white oak barrels.
Why is Garrison Brothers so expensive?
Texas heat drives evaporation, and the angel's share can reach 40% of a barrel. You are paying for the whiskey that survived, plus grain to glass production on the Garrison Brothers ranch in Hye.
What does Garrison Brothers bourbon taste like?
Expect dark oak, molasses, leather and dark chocolate rather than light corn sweetness. The Hill Country heat pushes the spirit deep into the wood, so cask strength pours benefit from a few minutes open in the glass.
