The story

The story behind Folonari

Francesco Folonari founded the house in 1825 in the Veneto, northeast Italy, and two centuries later the name still means the same thing on our shelf: honest northern red at a working price. The everyday line is part of Gruppo Italiano Vini, Italy's largest wine production group, and it is deliberately separate from the premium Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari estates branched off in 2000.

Folonari reds are vinified in stainless steel, no oak, no long cellar time. Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara carry the Valpolicella and Bardolino; Sangiovese carries the Chianti. Fruit forward, soft tannins, built to drink now. We have sold these bottles for three decades to people who want a Tuesday red, not a lecture.

Good to know

Folonari questions, answered

Is Folonari Italian Red dry or sweet?
Folonari reds are dry table wines with very low residual sugar, typically around 3 grams per liter. Ripe raspberry and cherry notes read as sweetness to some drinkers, but the wines finish dry.
What grapes are used in Folonari Valpolicella?
Folonari Valpolicella uses the traditional Venetian blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara. Those three native grapes give the bright cherry fruit and light tannin the wine is known for.
Who owns Folonari wine?
The everyday Folonari brand line belongs to Gruppo Italiano Vini, the largest wine production group in Italy. The premium Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari estates were separated out in 2000.
Is Folonari Chianti oak-aged?
No. Folonari Chianti DOCG is vinified in stainless steel with no oak contact. That keeps the violet aroma and crisp red berry profile fresh rather than woody.
Can I get Folonari delivered or pick it up locally?
Yes. We offer same-day or next-day delivery across Nassau and Suffolk, free curbside pickup in Commack, and free local delivery on orders over $250. Wine ships only to states where legal, confirmed at checkout.
