The story behind Decoy
Decoy was founded in 1985 by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn, the couple behind Duckhorn Vineyards. It started as a Napa Valley red blend built from surplus wine and grew into a standalone California winery with its own estate fruit, including Alexander Valley's Ridgeline and Brownell vineyards. Winemaker Dana Epperson oversees the cellar.
The signature Cabernet is a Bordeaux style blend, roughly 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Merlot, aged 18 months in 100% French oak, about 40% new. That oak gives you cedar, vanilla and baking spice around blackberry and black cherry. We have carried Decoy for years because it delivers real structure at a price that does not punish you.
