The story behind Copeland
Copeland Gin comes from Donaghadee, a small harbor town in County Down, Northern Ireland. Gareth Irvine founded the brand in 2015, crowdfunded it in 2016, and opened the permanent distillery near the harbor in August 2019. The flagship recipe uses 12 organic and wild botanicals, including Sea Pink Maritima hand foraged from the Copeland Islands just offshore.
Distillers macerate those botanicals for 16 to 24 hours, then run them through a 300 liter copper column still. The spirit is proofed down and rested two weeks before bottling. In 2022 the Traditional Irish Gin took the IWSC Best Contemporary Gin Trophy with 99 points. That is not marketing. That is a scorecard.
