The story behind Cono Sur
Cono Sur was founded in 1993 by Viña Concha y Toro as an independent subsidiary built around cool-climate Chilean vineyards. The home base is the Santa Elisa estate in Chimbarongo, in the Colchagua Valley, with fruit drawn from Casablanca, San Antonio, Aconcagua and Bío Bío. The bicycle on the label honors the field workers who pedal to the vines, and the farming follows that logic: organic certification since 2003, geese instead of pesticides, Certified B Corp status.
The Chardonnay itself is 100% Chardonnay, vegan friendly under V-Label, and fermented clean and unoaked in the entry and organic tiers. That means citrus, melon and a mineral spine rather than butter and vanilla. We have poured it by the glass for years because it behaves like a wine twice the price.
