The story behind Clone
Chardonnay is the grape that travels. It was born in Burgundy, and growers have been sub selecting individual vines for generations, propagating a single mother vine for small berries, bright acid, or tropical fruit. Those selections are what the trade calls clones, and they are why two Chardonnays from the same town can taste nothing alike.
Clone Chardonnay is our house label for that idea, an affordable pour that keeps the grape's clean orchard fruit front and center. We have poured this kind of value Chardonnay across our Commack counter for over 30 years, and it still moves faster than anything else in the white aisle.
