Chateau Ste.michelle Merlot
Washington Merlot poured in Commack since the last century.
The story behind Chateau Ste.michelle
The roots of Chateau Ste. Michelle reach back to 1934, when the National Wine Company opened in Washington State just after Prohibition. It merged with Pomerelle in 1954 to become American Wine Growers, and in 1967, with Andre Tchelistcheff consulting, the Ste. Michelle Vineyards label launched. The full Chateau Ste. Michelle name arrived in 1976.
The Merlot comes from the Columbia Valley AVA, where warmer vineyard sites ripen the fruit. It is a blend, roughly 81 to 88 percent Merlot with Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Mourvedre filling out structure and color, then 18 to 22 months in French and American oak. We have poured it across this counter for decades.
