Casas Del Bosque Pinot Noir
Cool-climate Chilean Pinot Noir, poured in Commack since the 1990s.
The story behind Casas Del Bosque
Casas Del Bosque was founded in 1993 by Juan Cúneo Solari, a descendant of Italian immigrants who chose premium winemaking over volume. The estate sits in the Casablanca Valley, in the westernmost sub-region of Las Dichas, about 18 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean at 250 meters. Morning fog, maritime breeze and decomposed volcanic red granite over clay loam do the heavy lifting.
Grapes are hand-harvested, partly destemmed, then cold-soaked two to four days before fermenting in open-topped stainless steel and concrete. The Collection Pinot Noir ages roughly 10 percent in new French oak, 40 percent in used French oak and 50 percent in stainless on fine lees for 10 months. The Gran Reserva adjusts oak by vintage. The house was named Best Chilean Wine Producer at the IWSC in London in 2013 and 2014.

$13.99 buys real Casablanca Valley Pinot for a Tuesday roast chicken.
More French and American oak, more dark fruit, still bright acidity at $16.99.
