The story

The story behind Canadian Club

Hiram Walker built his distillery in Walkerville, Ontario in 1858, and the whisky that carried his name has been poured ever since. Canadian Club is still made in that Windsor, Ontario neighborhood, and the method has not drifted: corn, rye, rye malt and barley malt, with the corn doing the quiet base work and the rye and malted grains carrying the spice. What sets Canadian Club apart is pre-barrel blending, where the separate distillates marry before they ever meet charred white oak, then age together in former bourbon barrels.

We have sold Canadian Club across this counter for three decades. It is the bottle people come back for, not the one they photograph.

Canadian Club cocktails and pairings

The peppery sweet profile wants smoke and salt. Serve it with barbecue or a sharp cheddar and let the rye do the talking.
Good to know

Canadian Club questions, answered

Is Canadian Club a rye whiskey?
Canadian Club is a blended Canadian whisky built on corn with rye and malted grains as flavoring whiskies. The brand also sells Canadian Club 100% Rye, made entirely from rye grain at Alberta Distillers.
Who founded Canadian Club and when?
Hiram Walker founded the distillery in 1858 in Walkerville, Ontario, now part of Windsor. Canadian Club has been produced in that same Ontario region continuously since then.
What is Canadian Club made from?
The mash bill combines corn, rye, rye malt and barley malt. Corn serves as the base whisky while rye and malted grains add spice and depth, all aged in charred white oak bourbon barrels.
How do you drink Canadian Club?
Neat, on a large ice block, or in a highball with ginger ale. It also works in a Manhattan, where Canadian rye brings a lighter, peppery sweetness than American rye.
