The story

The story behind Caesar Augustus

Caesar Augustus Merlot comes out of Veneto, in Northern Italy, under the delle Venezie indication. The grape is 100% Merlot, vinified to a soft, approachable style: velvety tannins, gentle acidity, dark cherries, blackberries, plums, a whisper of oak and spice. Nothing tricky, nothing overbuilt.

The name borrows the likeness of Augustus Caesar, Rome's first emperor, born Octavian in 63 B.C. The corporate founder and exact founding year are not publicly documented, so we won't invent them. What we can tell you is what the bottle does: it lands around 12% to 13% ABV, drinks best at 60 to 65 degrees, and has been a steady value pour on our Commack shelves for years.

Good to know

Caesar Augustus questions, answered

Is Caesar Augustus Merlot sweet or dry?
Caesar Augustus Merlot is a dry red wine. The ripe dark cherry, blackberry and plum notes read as fruity rather than sugary, with soft tannins and gentle acidity keeping the finish clean.
Where does Caesar Augustus Merlot come from?
It comes from Northern Italy, specifically Veneto, designated under the delle Venezie indication. The wine is 100% Merlot and is bottled in the value tier for everyday drinking rather than long aging.
What food pairs with Caesar Augustus Merlot?
Tomato based pasta, roasted pork, grilled chicken, brick oven pizza and medium aged cheeses all work. Serve it slightly cool, between 60 and 65 degrees, in a standard red wine glass so the fruit opens.
How is Caesar Augustus Merlot served?
Serve it at cellar temperature, 60 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit, in a wide red wine bowl. Let the bottle breathe a few minutes after opening, then pour with dinner rather than saving it for a special occasion.
