The story behind Bv Century Cellars
Georges de Latour founded Beaulieu Vineyard in Rutherford, California in 1900. The Century Cellars line came later, built as the everyday pour from a house that made its name on Napa Cabernet. The fruit is California appellation, not a single vineyard, and the wine is Cabernet Sauvignon by law at 75 percent or more of the stated varietal.
Winemaking here is deliberately early drinking. Soft, supple tannins, plum and cassis up front, chocolate and cedar behind. It took a Silver Medal at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition across the 2002, 2004 and 2005 vintages, plus Bronze at Los Angeles International in 2015. We have poured it across this counter for years because it behaves like a Cabernet should at a price that does not argue.
