The story behind Berentzen
Berentzen has been distilling in Haselünne, a small town in Lower Saxony's Emsland district, since 1758. Johann Bernhard Tobias Berentzen started with a grain distillery and the family kept at it for more than 260 years. The house still runs on 100% German wheat distillate, called Korn, rather than the generic neutral spirit most fruit liqueurs lean on.
That wheat base is why Berentzen cordials taste like fruit instead of sweetened alcohol. The core expressions are blended, not macerated: fresh fruit juice and natural sugar go into the wheat spirit, and the bottles stay unaged to keep the fruit bright. Apple, the original Apfelkorn, took recognizable honors at the 2012 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
