The story behind Belvedere
Belvedere comes out of Polmos Żyrardów, a distillery in Mazovia, Poland that has been running since 1910. The brand itself launched in 1993 and reached the United States in 1996, which is roughly when we started pouring it across the counter. It carries the Polska Wódka protected geographical indication, so the rye and the water are Polish by law, not by marketing.
The mash bill is 100% Polish rye, mostly the Dankowskie varieties, plus water from the distillery's own artesian wells. Four distillations, no charcoal filtration, no sugar, no glycerin, no citric acid. That is why it tastes like vanilla, clotted cream and white pepper instead of nothing at all.
